Wayne Boyd Cross

Wayne Boyd Cross, born November 21, 1932, in Murphysboro, Illinois, peacefully left this world on August 31, 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and service that will be treasured forever. Wayne served in the United States Navy from 1952 – 1956 aboard the USS Yorktown and was a proud veteran. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Jacqueline (Donovan) Cross and their daughter Lisa Cross. He is survived in life by four of his children, eight grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Wayne was a thoughtful and caring husband. He and Jacqueline shared their lives together for 61 devoted years. Their affection, bond, and loving traditions were a testament of love’s enduring strength and provided an inspiration to all who knew them. He was a loving and proud father to his children Michael Cross, Maribeth Allen (husband Thomas), Jeffrey Cross (wife Jackie), Lisa Cross, and Colleen Kay (husband Robert). His guidance, wisdom, and unwavering support were a constant source of strength for his children. Wayne was an adoring grandfather to Nicole Frasz (husband Mark), Timothy Cross, Brandon Cross (wife Jenna), Caitlyn Gutierrez (husband Bryce), Sara Larsen (husband Spencer), McKayla Kay, Kelly Kay, and Ryan Kay. He attended nearly all their activities and enjoyed watching them grow and succeed. He took great pride in their many achievements. Many years later, he thoroughly enjoyed and absolutely loved doing it all over again as a great grandfather to Theodore Frasz, Everett Frasz, Charlotte Cross, Madelyn Cross, Brooklyn Cross, Thomas Gutierrez, Ellie Gutierrez, and Ehler Larsen. He cherished holding a newborn and loved watching his family grow. Wayne simply adored his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Family was the cornerstone of his life, grounded in faith, love, and cherished traditions. In addition to his family, Wayne was passionate about everything he took on in life. As a young man he was a very accomplished football player, earning many honors in high school and a scholarship to Northwestern University. He was proud of the many accomplishments he achieved during his 36-year career at Hughes Aircraft Company in Fullerton and the life-long friends he met there. He was a fervent golfer, spending many hours on the links perfecting his game and enjoying the camaraderie of friends and family. In his golden years, he joined a Wood Carvers Club, and created some of the most remarkable carvings you could imagine. He went to many competitions and even wrote a computer program for judges to use while scoring those contests. His dedication to the community was manifested through his volunteer work. To name just a few, he volunteered as a church usher, scout leader, football coach, and a baseball umpire. He offered his services to the Bread of Angels ministry at Saint Angela Merici Catholic Church where he fed the hungry from the ministry’s inception and well into his golden years. The memory of Wayne Boyd Cross will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a loving husband, caring grandfather and great grandfather, a reliable friend and mentor, and a dedicated servant to his community. He will be clearly missed and forever remembered. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Angela Merici Catholic Church on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 1:00 PM, followed by his interment at Memory Garden Memorial Park, both located in Brea.
