Delores "Dee" Ann Willis

Born the first Christmas baby of 1949 in Las Vegas, Nevada to be the middle child of Emil and Avis Hixon. Delores was a free spirited, fun loving, brave woman, always ready to go on an adventure, even in her 70’s. On March 9, 2024 she blazed the trail to Heaven so swiftly it blew dry her hair faster than an industrial strength blow-dryer. She always packed one, even for camping trips. As a young girl in the Mojave Deserts of California, Dee enjoyed riding bikes and climbing mountains with her older sister Judy and competing in go-cart races and shooting BB guns with her younger brother Ricky. As a family they enjoyed evening strolls, occasional trips to town, and special Sunday night dinners. With a hearing impairment Dee studied hard and excelled throughout her educational career, earning her an Associates Degree from Fullerton Junior College. As a speed reader she even read the Bible from cover to cover twice in one day. This may or may not have had something to do with a handsome pastor’s son at First Christian Church of La Habra, where she attended church with her family after moving to the city in the 60’s. She would live many places and grew a fondness for the beach, but the desert never left her. In her home you would find her contently smiling, hanging out in her kitchen, possibly teaching her niece to bake pies or making some delicious Mexican dish with her sons. Like her, her home was relaxing, comforting, beautiful and happy. Decorated with her handmade sand candles and pottery, and home to fish, turtles, birds, and a tranquil garden oasis filled with plants, that she hand collected from various places including some family members homes. She would also care for the clowder of meowing neighborhood cats awaiting her on her door step ever morning. Animal lover, artist, fashionista, foodie, and best friend are just a few ways to describe Dee. But most of all, “Mother”. Her greatest accomplishment and greatest joy in this life was her two sons Dana and Hughie. There was nothing she loved more than being with her boys and they with her. She is survived by her loving sons Dana Willis, Hugh Hames, her sister Judith Scott and brother- in-law Timothy Scott, her brother Richard Hixon, nieces Nicole and spouse Christopher, great nephew Shane and great niece Ashlee Robson, niece Regina Hixon and great nephew Lucas Hixon, niece Tiffany and spouse Patrick, great nieces Charlotte and Emma Moffat. This life comes and goes as quick as the desert blooms, by eternity together in Heaven is where we meet again.
