Mary Chrystelle Gallo

Mary Gallo, age 81, passed away peacefully in her home on February 25, 2021, in La Habra, CA. She was born in San Francisco, CA on October 29, 1939, to William Richard Hill and Elizabeth Hill. As a child, Mary grew up in San Francisco. Her father was a chef and her mother worked in the dry cleaning industry. Growing up, she enjoyed going fishing with her father, cooking, and helping her mom with clothing at work. She was an athlete, she learned to play football and softball very well. She became a competitive roller skater and bowler. After high school, she relocated to San Diego, CA. She married her soul mate, Sam Gallo, and bought their first home where they started their family. Sam’s job relocated them up north to Novato for a couple of years, before relocating him to his home base in Orange County, CA, where they essentially raised their two daughters. In 1972, Mary became the Jr. Director for Highland Bowl. She was responsible for all the strategic and tactical operations pertaining to the leagues, bowlers, and tournaments that involved juniors. She went on to work for Regal Lanes in Orange, CA and finally Yorba Linda Bowl where she started and coached the first wheelchair league for individuals with disabilities and special needs. Mary became a professional bowler and joined the Western Women’s Professional Bowlers Association, WWPB, and Ladies Professional Bowling Tour, LPBT. She traveled locally and nationally across the country, competing professionally, for over 30 years. Throughout her life, she was a member of many community and national organizations. She served for political campaigns, the American Cancer Society, Our Lady of Guadalupe’s religious education offices, and Sierra Vista School, where she received “Volunteer of the Year” twice. Most of all, she was a devoted wife to her husband, Sam, of over sixty years, a mother, and exceptional grandmother. She was a woman of passion, opinion, loyalty, and love. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. Mary Chrystelle Gallo was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph S. Gallo. She is survived by her daughters: Chrystelle Gallo (Julie), Anaheim Hills, CA, Channa Robles (Joseph), McMinnville, OR; Grandchildren: Derek Jackson (Jinhee), San Angelo, TX, Tyler Jackson, Orange, CA, Jenna Jackson, Fort Worth, TX. A service of burial celebrating Mary’s life will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Gardens, 455 W. Central Ave., Brea, CA 92821.
