    Leo Pierre Hymel

    December 12, 1926 - May 20, 2013

    Leo Pierre Hymel, Jr. passed away unexpectedly at the age of 86 surrounded by his family on May 20th, 2013. Leo was born in Convent, Louisiana on December 12, 1926 to Rose and Leo Hymel, Sr. He was the oldest of five children all of whom were raised in the rural Louisiana town. He graduated from business college and served as a corporal in the United States Army from 1950-52 and was stationed in Germany. After returning from military service, Leo started work at Royal Globe Insurance Company where he worked for 37 years as an auditor and manager of west coast administration. While growing up in Convent, Leo met Lucie Vitrano and they went on to marry at St. Michael’s Church in 1954. They moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1957 where they raised three children: Pam, Stan and Jan. Leo continued working for the Royal Globe Insurance Company and in 1965 was transferred to the west coast. He and his wife and children settled in Brea, CA, where he lived until his passing. During his son’s youth, Leo was very active with the Boy Scouts and Little League. In recent years, Leo has been an active member of the Knights of Columbus of St. Angela Merici Church. He loved life, sports, LSU, golf and travel and found joy in spending time with his wife and family. . He was a person of such wisdom, such faith, such loyalty. He is survived by his three children: Pam, Stan and Jan and four grandchildren, Dano, Kathryn, Nick, and Alex. A memorial service will be held at Saint Angela Merici Catholic Church, 585 South Walnut, Brea, CA on Wednesday, May 29 at 10 am and immediately following will be the burial at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the City of Hope in memory of Leo P. Hymel at www.cityofhope.org/donate or (866) 683-4673; ask for Noel De Leon.
