Roy Roosevelt Bullock Jr.

Roy Roosevelt Bullock Jr. was born on October 21, 1931, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Roy Roosevelt Bullock Sr. and Mary Alice (Baker) Bullock. When Roy was young, the family moved to Bakersfield, California, where he was raised alongside his four sisters. They were active members of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Bakersfield, where Roy's lifelong faith in Jesus Christ began to take root. Roy graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1949 and soon afterward moved to Eugene, Oregon, to attend Northwest Christian College. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1952 and was ordained into Christian ministry. He later earned a Master of Arts degree from Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma, and, years later, completed his Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy at Chapman University in Orange, California. In 1954, Roy married the love of his life, Joan Faye Daniels, fondly called Jody, on July 2nd in Eugene Oregon. Roy and Jody had their first son, Daniel Roy, in 1956. After they moved to Southern California, they completed their family with Patricia Ruth and David Scott. Roy faithfully served the Lord for many years as a pastor before feeling called to a new ministry—helping individuals, couples, and families through counseling and marriage and family therapy. While continuing his education, he earned his doctorate and went on to join the faculty at Chapman University. There he maintained a private counseling practice while teaching and mentoring future therapists, sharing not only his knowledge but also his compassion and heart for serving others. Following Jody's passing in 2010, God blessed Roy with another loving companion, Annie Marie (Mezzo). They were married in 2012, and Roy warmly embraced Annie's daughters, Pamela and Angela, and their families. They shared seven wonderful years together before Annie's passing. Roy continued to live each day with joy, gratitude, and unwavering faith in his Lord and Savior. He delighted family and friends with his warm smile, rich singing voice, engaging stories, and genuine interest in others. Whether offering words of encouragement, sharing a favorite hymn, or simply spending time with those he loved, Roy reflected the grace, kindness, and hope that defined his life. On June 30, 2026, Roy passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mary Alice; his beloved wives, Jody and Annie; his sisters, Mary Lucille, Martha Jane, and Shirley Ann; his children, Patricia Ruth and David Scott; and two great-grandchildren. Roy is survived by his son, Daniel Roy (Sharon); his sister, Carolyn Sue; his daughter-in-law, Tamara; his son-in-law, Bill; his stepdaughters, Pamela and Angela; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Roy will be remembered for his steadfast faith, compassionate heart, gentle spirit, and lifelong commitment to helping others. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched as a pastor, counselor, professor, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His life was a testimony to God's grace and faithful love. Praise the Lord!" — Psalm 150:6 A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 8, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church of Orange. A reception in Walker Hall will immediately follow the service.
