Bette Hess

Bette (Mary Elizabeth Oustalet) Hess, 84, died peacefully on Monday, September 18, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was born December 31, 1932 in New Orleans, LA, daughter of Raymond and Ursula Vidal Oustalet. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Edward William Hess, Sr. Bette lived in Fullerton, CA for 50 years, and was an active member of St. Angela Merici Catholic Church in Brea, CA having at one time served as a Eucharistic Minister. Bette was devoted to her faith, family and friends. She loved to entertain and was well known for her parties and sharing her Southern hospitality. Bette was a champion bridge player, but most of all loved playing bunco with her long-time friends. Her sense of humor was contagious and she loved to laugh. Bette’s great joy in life was to help and comfort others. She was young at heart and loved children of all ages. Bette is preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and sisters, her husband’s brother William Jacob Hess, Jr. and his wife Carolyn Drumm Hess. She is survived by her eight children who were the jewels in her crown: Edward Jr. (Elvia), Michelle (Leigh), Terry (Meredith), James Bones, Michael (Liz), Mae, Willie, and Alexander (Amelia); her beloved grandchildren: Chelsea, Forrest, Angela, Catherine, Alicia, Miguel, Billy, and Michael; her dear nieces and nephews: Mary, William, Lucy, John, Claire, and James Hess; Evelyn, Thomas, Sue, Peggy, and Stephen Hale; John and Lorie Oustalet; and her beloved life-long friend, Vera Lyons. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Memory Garden Memorial Park Mortuary. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church in Brea, CA at 11 am on Friday, September 29, 2017. A reception will be held immediately following the mass at Coyote Hills Country Club, 1440 E. Bastanchury Road, in Fullerton. Burial will take place in New Orleans, LA at a later date.
